The City of Canal Fulton and Lawrence Township, in cooperation with the Boy Scouts of America, established the Northwest Fire Explorer Post for all young people to find out if they are really interested in firefighting and/or the medical field as a career.
The Fire Departments began sponsoring this program in the spring of 2011. This program allows young adults, 14-18 years old, the opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge in the career of a firefighter / Emergency Medical Technician. Explorers attend bi-weekly meetings and bi-monthly training sessions, from medical skills to firefighting techniques. The most exciting portion of the program is the opportunity for the Explorers to provide support functions on a fire ground. It allows the participants to observe what exactly is needed, both mentally and physically, when they choose a firefighting / medical career.
